The calculators cover poisons, heat, age, years ahead, food, weight, size and cost. There is also a symptom checker, a pet food label reader, a first-year timeline, reptile and aquarium tools, the medicines vets prescribe, clinical trials and a pet name finder. Every threshold is sourced, every page shows you where it came from, and nothing you type leaves your browser, except a label photo you choose to send.

If something has just been eaten

If this is happening right now

Call your own vet first. If they are shut, both of these are open all night and both charge a consultation fee: ASPCA Animal Poison Control, (888) 426-4435 · Pet Poison Helpline, (855) 764-7661.

Do not try to make the animal vomit at home unless somebody on the phone tells you to, and tells you how. The wrong method at the wrong moment does more harm than the poison.

Pet Poison Helpline's 2025 call log put chocolate first for dogs, then grapes and raisins, then bromethalin rat bait, then xylitol. Three of that top four are above. Bromethalin has no calculator on purpose: rat baits come in five chemically different types dyed the same colors, and the only number that matters is the EPA registration number on the box.

Heat

Three quarters of the dog heatstroke that reaches a vet is caused by exercise rather than parked cars, and the average case happens at about 62°F. If it has already happened, cool first and drive second — the method most websites recommend is out of date.
