This dog was bred to nip the heels of running cattle all day, and a bored, under-exercised Cattle Dog will redirect that instinct onto joggers, bicycles, other pets, and children's ankles — it is not a mellow companion breed no matter how it looks in photos.
Despite the breed's own gentle, people-focused temperament and its old nickname 'the nanny dog,' its bull-and-terrier ancestry and blocky build mean it can be caught up in the same insurance exclusions, breed-specific ordinances, and pet-unfriendly rental listings that target pit-bull-type dogs in parts of the US, regardless of an individual dog's behavior.
